CDMA Network Change

The CDMA network (an older network technology) will begin shutting down in regions across Canada starting on the following dates:

What do these changes mean?

All voice (including 911 services), text and data communications sent over the CDMA network will gradually be phased out and will no longer be available after the service discontinuation dates in the regions above.

Prepaid customers will no longer be able to top up on their current phones starting on the following dates:

Prepaid balances will expire on July 31, 2017 across all regions; however, if you upgrade your phone before the balance expiry date, the balance will be transferred to your new phone and top-up blocks will be removed. Your PC mobile number and rate plan will be transferred to your new device.

Will I still be able to make/receive calls (including 911 services)?
Starting on the dates above, you will no longer be able to make or receive calls on the CDMA network in the areas noted.
Will I still be able to send/receive texts?
Starting on the dates above, you will no longer be able to send or receive texts on the CDMA network in the areas noted.
Will I still have data connectivity?
Starting on the dates above, you will no longer be able to use cellular data on the CDMA network in the areas noted.
How do I know if I’m on the CDMA network?
If you are on the CDMA network, you will see a network identifier near the battery icon on the display of your device.
